California High Speed Rail

CLIENT: CA HIGH SPEED RAIL AUTHORITY | LOCATION: MADERA, FRESNO, KINGS & TULARE COUNTIES, CA

MGE has been partnering with International Line Builders (ILB) to relocate electrical infrastructure as part of California's ambitious High Speed Rail project since 2018. Spanning from South Fresno to Wasco, our work focuses on undergrounding previously overhead electrical systems for active BNSF and UPRR rail lines. As ILB’s civil support, we bring our undergrounding expertise to one of the most complex infrastructure efforts in state history.

This project requires MGE to work in the busiest industrial areas of the Central Valley where power lines, underground infrastructure, operational railroad tracks, and vehicle roadways coexist. Our crews abide by strict protocols to ensure safety for themselves and the public in these unique conditions. To navigate areas with complex historic underground infrastructure, such as Fresno, MGE works hand-in-hand with local governments to ensure our work is safe and successful.

Undergrounding electrical systems beneath railroad tracks requires a creative approach to allow continual operation of the railways. MGE’s Jack and Bore method provides trenchless underground installation of 20” to 36" casings up to 600 feet in length without disrupting the surface. Our trenchless undergrounding solutions allow ILB to save money, meet project deadlines, and keep their railways running.

With decades of experience in underground installations, MGE is known for getting the job done efficiently and safely—even in the most challenging conditions.
