Existing underground utilities are frequently the largest cause of contract cost overruns. Many times their existence is known through legacy maps; however their exact location and elevation cannot be determined because accurate as-built records do not exist. This means engineers are essentially using their “best guess” to include existing facilities on contract drawings, which exposes agencies to delays and extra work claims when field conditions prove different from the bid documents.

MGE Underground can provide accurate, field verified coordinate and depth information of existing utilities for your projects. This allows you to accurately depict field conditions to bidding contractors, and reduces unforeseen conditions. 

The process is simple. Just contact us early in the design phase of your project, and we will provide a detailed quote.  We will obtain the necessary permits, USA dig Tickets, physically expose the existing utilities, and our licensed surveyors will collect northing, easting, elevation, and pipe diameter data. This information will be forwarded to your staff electronically, for inclusion on the plans. The “potholes” (typically an 8” diameter round core at the surface) will be backfilled and permanently restored to local specifications.
